White Power Give Deccan Maiden Win in IPL 5

Pune: A blistering knock by Cameron White and top-class fielding gave Team Hyderabad a well-deserving 18-run win over Team Pune at the Subrata Roy Sahara stadium on Thursday night.

Hyderabad scored 177-4 after being put in to bat and then restricted the hosts to 159-7.

Substitute Daniel Harris, who fielded for Hyderabad's top scorer Cameron White (78, 46b, 6x4s, 5x6s) first took a straightforward Jesse Ryder catch at mid-wicket.

He then held Sourav Ganguly's full-blooded shot superbly at head height at extra-cover. Captain Kumar Sangakkara, who had read the wicket better than his counterpart, showed his alertness in catching Marlon Samuels (in for Luke Wright) at the top of the circle at extra cover. And JP Duminy caught dangerman Steve Smith (26 off 13 with three sixes) sliding at long-on off Rusty Theron.

The result means all the teams have now won at least one match with Hyderabad recording their first success. Pune, on the other hand, lost a good chance to jump to second in the standings. Pune's chase faced a severe setback when Robin Uthappa (29 off 27) and Samuels both got out in the 14th over.

Till the seventh overs, both teams were going neck to neck (Hyd 50-2, Pune 53-2). But then Pune's task got tougher and tougher by each over: 105 off 10 overs and 77 off 5.

In the Hyderabad innings, White's 75-run association in 6.2 overs with Duminy gave substance to the innings. Leggie Rahul Sharma went for 19 in one over to upset Pune's applecart.

However, Pune did come back into the game by giving away only 36 runs in the last four overs.
