West Iindies win by 7 wickets to go 1-0 up

West Indies 197 for 3 (Chase 94, Hope 77*, Mujeeb 2-33) beat Afghanistan 194 (Rahmat 61, Alikhil 58, Holder 2-21, Chase 2-31) by seven wickets

Lucknow: Nicholas Pooran hit the winning runs as West Indies beat Afghanistan by 7 wickets to win the first ODI at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday.

Chasing 195 it was a stroll in the park for the West Indies as Shai Hope (unbeaten on 77) and Roston Chase (94 of 115 balls) forged a hundred-run stand.

With this win Windies go 1-0 up in the series.

Batting first, Afghanistan posted 194 in the first innings of the 1st ODI against West Indies after a late collapse from their middle order.

This was the second-ever international match at this stadium.

New ODI skippers Rashid Khan and Kieron Pollard were leading the two sides respectively.

The Windies begin campaign under new head coach Phil Simmons with the tour of Afghanistan before moving on to India.

The two sides embark on a new chapter after finishing at the bottom of the points table at the World Cup will 2019.
