Melbourne: Australia's run gluttons feasted in unprecedented fashion before their bowlers dominated the back half of day two as West Indies wobbled and records tumbled in the Boxing Day Test.
Steve Smith, one of four Australian centurions at the MCG, declared at 3-551 during the second session.
West Indies lurched to 6-91 at stumps, with Nathan Lyon, James Pattinson and Peter Siddle claiming two wickets apiece.
The hosts resumed at 3-345 on Sunday, a commanding platform built by centuries from Joe Burns and Usman Khawaja on the opening.
Smith and Adam Voges reached three figures in the middle session before the skipper finally ended the carnage.
It is the first time that four Australian batsmen scored tons in a single Test innings in Australia.
New Zealand are the only other side to have achieved the feat in Australia, which they did at the WACA in 2001.
Smith finished 134 not out, while Voges was unbeaten on 106.
Both men ticked off personal milestones and continued to punish Jason Holder for sending the hosts in.
Voges moved past 1000 Test runs in his 18th Test innings - only three other Australians have done it in fewer knocks.
The 36-year-old has 375 runs in the current series and no average - the opposition is yet to dismiss him. Smith capped a magnificent 2015 by posting his sixth Test ton of the year.
